Business experimentation

Test your business idea with real customers before building it at full scale.

You don't need a finished idea

We can start before the idea

We can start by testing a defined idea – or earlier. Ideation is always optional and aims at something that can be tested in the real world. Together we agree where Aulis joins the journey.

01

Ideate

Opportunities, customer problems, product and service ideas, business models and new uses for existing capabilities.

02

Select

Prioritise ideas: which is most promising and what to test first.

03

Make testable

A concept and hypothesis that can be put in front of customers.

04

Test

An experiment in the real market and a decision based on the results.

What is a business experiment?

A business experiment is a defined, measurable test that shows whether the riskiest assumption behind a business idea holds in a real market. It can be a landing page, a pre-sale, a trade fair stand, a pricing test or a prototype in a customer's hands.

What happens in an experiment

  • Clarify the customer, problem and value proposition
  • Frame testable hypotheses and metrics
  • Build a just-enough test version
  • Take it to customers online or offline
  • Analyse the results and decide the next step

Questions about business experiments

How much does it cost to test a business idea?

A defined Aulis Sprint is a fixed-price project. The price depends on what the experiment requires – a landing page is different from a physical prototype.

What is the difference between a market experiment and market research?

Market research asks what people say they would do. A market experiment measures what they actually do: click, leave their details or buy.

What if the experiment fails?

Then you learn cheaply what you would otherwise learn expensively. A decision to stop is as valuable as a decision to scale.
